Excellence in Therapist Training & Clinical Supervision
At Cornerstone Family Counselling Services, our impact extends far beyond our therapy rooms. As an officially recognized clinical training site in Ontario, we’re cultivating the next generation of skilled, compassionate mental health professionals who will serve communities across the province.
Our mission is clear: Every therapist we train multiplies our ability to heal. Each professional we mentor goes on to support hundreds of individuals and families throughout their career—creating lasting and positive change in mental health care.
With 1 in 4 Ontarians reporting poor mental health and waitlists for care often stretching for months, the need for well-trained therapists has never been greater.
Our training philosophy is built on the belief that exceptional therapists require more than technical knowledge—they need comprehensive preparation for the complexities of real-world practice. We don’t just teach techniques—we develop thoughtful, ethical practitioners equipped to excel in their careers and serve their communities with distinction.
Our clinical supervision is led by Father Pishoy Wasfy, PhD, DCP (Doctor of Counselling and Psychotherapy)- Canada’s highest clinical qualification in counselling. Alongside our team of experienced Registered Psychotherapists, we provide mentorship that combines decades of practical experience with cutting-edge therapeutic knowledge. Guiding therapists toward full CRPO registration.
If you’re working toward your full registration as a Registered Psychotherapist, our clinical supervision program provides the rigorous, supportive guidance you need to excel. Our supervisors bring both academic excellence and real-world expertise to help you develop confidence and competence in your practice.
Master’s-level training opportunities.
Our practicum program offers graduate students invaluable hands-on experience in a professional therapeutic setting. Under close supervision, interns develop practical skills while contributing to meaningful client care.
Current Status: Our practicum placements are currently full, and we are not accepting applications at this time. Please check back periodically for future opportunities.
We believe that excellent therapists aren't just trained—they're sustained. That’s why our training program includes a structured focus on self-care. Through intentional modelling, reflective exercises, and formal assessment, we help trainees build habits that support emotional resilience and professional longevity.
We prioritize developing practitioners who uphold the highest professional and ethical standards, ensuring they are prepared for the responsibilities that come with therapeutic practice.
Our trainees don't just learn theory—they develop practical skills working with real clients under expert guidance. Our training emphasizes cultural sensitivity, spiritual awareness, and client-centered care that honours the whole person.
Starting October 2025, our supervised intern program will offer reduced-rate therapy. Interns will work under direct supervision from our experienced Registered Psychotherapists and offer excellent mental health support.
Whether you’re seeking clinical supervision to advance your career or looking for a training environment that prioritizes both professional growth and community service, we’re here to support your development as a skilled, compassionate mental health professional.
Apply for Clinical Supervision – Take the next step toward full CRPO registration with expert guidance.
While our current practicum placements are full, we encourage you to check back regularly for future openings. Excellence in training requires maintaining appropriate capacity—ensuring every trainee receives the attention and support they deserve.
The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) requires the supervisor to meet CRPO’s “independent practice” requirement (completion of 1000 direct client contact hours and 150 hours of clinical supervision) and to complete 30 hours of directed learning in providing clinical supervision. These expectations are subject to change. We recommend reviewing the most up-to-date information directly on the CRPO website.
We typically conduct supervision sessions weekly or bi-weekly, depending on your needs and CRPO requirements. Sessions are scheduled consistently to ensure continuous professional development and support.
Our supervision covers case consultation, therapeutic skill development, ethical considerations, professional development planning, and reflective practice. We focus on building your confidence and competence as a future Registered Psychotherapist.
Clinical supervision is provided at no cost for RP(Q)s working at Cornerstone. For external supervisees seeking supervision while working at other locations, our rate is $200 per session hour. This investment includes comprehensive case consultation, skill development, and personalized guidance toward CRPO registration.
Yes, you can receive supervision from us while providing therapy services at another approved location, as long as all CRPO requirements are met.
We are currently at full capacity for practicum placements and are not accepting applications. However, we are actively training additional supervisors at Cornerstone to expand our capacity and offer more internship opportunities in the future. We recommend checking back periodically for updates on availability.
Our reduced-rate therapy services (starting October 2025) are available to individuals experiencing financial barriers to accessing mental health care. Please contact our Intake Team in September 2025 For specific eligibility criteria and application processes.
Yes. Our interns work under direct supervision from experienced Registered Psychotherapists, ensuring high-quality care. In fact, research comparing outcomes for depression found that clients treated by student therapists had outcomes nearly identical to those treated by licensed clinicians, particularly in symptom improvement, therapeutic relationship quality, and skill development. There was no significant difference in effectiveness. And you benefit from the fresh perspectives and current training that interns bring.
Visit our Clinical Supervision page for detailed information about our supervision services, requirements, and application process.
Your initial meeting will include a review of your training background, discussion of your professional goals, overview of our supervision approach, and development of a personalized supervision plan to meet CRPO requirements.
Yes, our supervisors have diverse clinical experience and can support therapists working with various populations and therapeutic approaches. Please include your desired areas of specialization in your application form so we can match you with a supervisor whose expertise aligns with your practice interests.
At Cornerstone, we believe that therapy and supervision must reflect the diverse world we live in. Cultural responsiveness isn’t just a value. It’s part of how we practise, train, and grow.
We invite you to bring your full self into the room — including your cultural background, lived experience, and any questions or tensions that arise when working with clients whose experiences differ from your own.
We also help you explore how identity, power, language, and systemic barriers might be showing up in the therapy room, and how to respond with curiosity, humility, and care. Whether you’re new to this work or already thinking deeply about cultural identity in practice, you’ll be supported without judgment.
Faith and spirituality are welcome too — if they’re meaningful to you or to the people you serve.
Ultimately, we want you to feel seen, heard, and prepared to offer therapy that meets people where they are, with respect and integrity.
At Cornerstone, we’re not just training therapists—we’re cultivating leaders who will shape the future of mental health care in Ontario and beyond.
Therapy for today. Mentorship for tomorrow. Excellence for a lifetime.
