Father Pishoy Wasfy Earns National Research Award and Doctor of Counselling and Psychotherapy (DCP) Designation

Celebrating a milestone in psychotherapy education and clinical leadership at Cornerstone Family Counselling Services.

A Milestone in Clinical Leadership

In 2025, Father Wasfy completed his Doctorate in Counselling and Psychotherapy (DCP) from Yorkville University, the highest degree credential in the field in Canada. The program focuses on leadership and cultural competence, applied research to address real challenges in practice and mentoring the next generation of counsellors.

He was also honoured with the 2025 Counsellor Educators and Supervisors (CES) Doctoral Dissemination Award from the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), recognizing outstanding doctoral research in the field. His research looked at self-care and clinical supervision, interracial relationships in immigrant communities and the connection between faith, identity and resilience.

These accomplishments reflect Father Wasfy’s commitment to strengthening mental health education and supporting new therapists as they enter the field.

A Word from Father Wasfy

“It’s an honour to be recognized as a DCP and as a national award recipient. These milestones remind me that healing is both a personal journey and a collective responsibility. Whether I’m offering therapy, supervision, or community education, my goal is the same: to serve with compassion, cultural sensitivity, and clinical integrity.”

Clinical Supervision and Training at Cornerstone

Father Wasfy also leads Cornerstone’s practicum and supervision program, mentoring interns and new therapists as they begin their careers.
