Grief and Loss Group Therapy

Strength in Numbers. Group Therapy Tailored for You.

Healing is a journey, and you don’t have to walk it alone. At Cornerstone, our group therapy sessions provide a safe, supportive environment where you can connect with others, share experiences, and learn strategies to thrive. Led by experienced therapists, our groups are designed to meet the unique needs of each participant, fostering growth, understanding, and hope.

When Someone You Love Dies, You Don't Have to Grieve Alone

The world keeps moving. But you feel stuck.

People tell you it gets easier with time. They say your loved one would want you to be happy. They mean well, but they don’t understand that grief isn’t something you just get over.

This group is for people who get it. People who know that some losses change you forever. Who understand that healing doesn’t mean forgetting.

Program Details

Note: This group requires a minimum of 6 participants to proceed. If we don’t reach minimum enrollment, the start date may be adjusted. We’ll confirm final details two weeks before the start date.

What We'll Do Together

Over eight weeks, you’ll meet with others who have lost someone they love. Together, we’ll:

  • Share your story in a space where you won’t be judged or rushed
  • Learn why grief shows up the way it does (and why that’s okay)
  • Find ways to carry the hard emotions without being crushed by them
  • Navigate the triggers, holidays, and moments that catch you off guard
  • Build connections with people who actually understand
  • Discover how to honour your person while building a life forward

This isn’t about moving on. It’s about learning to carry your loss while finding moments of peace, meaning, and even joy again.

This Group Is For You If:

  • Someone you love died at least 3 months ago
  • You want to be around others who understand, not just sympathize
  • You’re tired of pretending you’re okay when you’re not
  • You can commit to showing up for all 8 weeks
  • You’re not in crisis right now (if you are, we’ll connect you with immediate support)

Questions You Might Have

That’s completely normal. Many people feel this way at first. You can share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with. Sometimes just listening to others helps. Nesrine will make sure the space feels safe and that no one is pressured to share before they’re ready.

This group is for anyone who has lost someone they love through death. It doesn’t matter if it was a parent, partner, child, sibling, friend, or someone else important to you. All losses are welcome here.

Grief doesn’t have an expiration date. Whether your loss was 6 months ago or 10 years ago, if you’re struggling with it now, this group can help.

Only if you want to. The focus is on your grief and how you’re living with the loss, not the details of the death itself. Share what feels right for you.

You probably will. So will others. That’s okay. This is a space where tears are welcome and understood.

Absolutely. Many people find that individual therapy and group therapy work well together. Your individual therapist can support you one-on-one while the group gives you connection with others who understand.

We ask that you commit to all 8 sessions because consistency helps build trust in the group. Life happens, though. If you need to miss one session, just let us know. Missing more than one session may impact the group dynamic.

Between 6 and 10 people. Small enough that everyone has time to share, large enough that you’ll hear different perspectives and experiences.

This is unlikely given our screening process, but if it happens, we’ll work it out together. Sometimes it can actually be meaningful to have someone else who remembers your person.

No. While Cornerstone offers optional faith integration for those who want it, this grief group is not faith-based. People of all beliefs (or no belief) are welcome.

Trust your gut. If this feels like too much right now, that’s okay. We can connect you with individual therapy instead, and you can always join a group later. You know yourself best.

The group sessions are just for participants. But you’re welcome to have someone come with you to the building and wait for you if that helps.

Some people feel ready to continue on their own. Others want more support. We’ll talk about options in the final session, which might include another group, individual therapy, or other resources.

Both can be powerful. Group therapy gives you connection with others who understand and helps you feel less alone. Individual therapy gives you one-on-one attention for your specific situation. When you call, we can help you figure out what makes the most sense for where you’re at right now.
