Sometimes the most powerful thing in therapy is realising you are not the only one carrying what you are carrying. Groups and workshops at Cornerstone bring people together around shared experiences, with a registered therapist guiding the process.
Group therapy is not the same as individual therapy in a room with more people. The group itself becomes part of the work. Hearing someone else name what you have been unable to say, being seen by people who actually understand, and learning alongside others who are working through something similar — these things have a therapeutic effect that one-to-one sessions cannot replicate.
Research from the American Psychological Association consistently shows that group therapy is as effective as individual therapy for a wide range of concerns, and for some people it is more effective. It also makes professional mental health support more accessible, which matters in a community where cost is often a barrier.
Small, therapist-led groups where members work through shared challenges together. Each group is structured and purposeful — not a drop-in support circle, but a clinical program with clear goals and a trained facilitator holding the process.
Groups run for a set number of sessions. Membership is kept small so that everyone has space to participate.
The therapist guides the work while the group provides something individual therapy cannot: the experience of being in relationship with others who are navigating something similar.
Workshops are more psychoeducational in format — part teaching, part practice — and are a good fit for people who want practical tools without the longer commitment of ongoing therapy.
Workshop topics vary and are developed in response to community need. Recent and recurring themes include managing anxiety, emotional regulation, communication in relationships, stress and burnout recovery, and grief. Workshops are available in English, French, and Arabic.
