CBT is a practical therapy that helps you see how your thoughts, feelings, and actions are linked. At Cornerstone, we use CBT to give people in Mississauga and Peel Region tools they can use in daily life to handle anxiety, low mood, and stress more effectively.
CBT is based on a simple idea: what you think, how you feel, and what you do all affect each other. CBT helps interrupt that cycle. You learn to notice unhelpful patterns — all-or-nothing thinking, assuming the worst, taking everything personally — and check whether those thoughts are actually accurate. This is not about forcing positive thinking. It is about seeing situations more clearly.
CBT is present-focused and practical. Many people work with CBT for around eight to twenty sessions and leave with skills they keep using long after therapy ends.
You and your therapist identify automatic thoughts that fuel anxiety, depression, or shame and practise building more realistic, helpful ways of thinking.
You gradually face situations you have been avoiding in a planned, safe way. Your brain learns the situation is more manageable than your anxiety suggested.

We adapt CBT to your situation rather than delivering it as a rigid programme. We often combine it with other approaches — trauma-informed or EMDR if trauma sits underneath your anxiety, or EFT if relationships are part of the picture.
Every therapist holds a master’s degree and is CRPO-registered. Our Clinical Director holds a PhD and a Doctor of Counselling and Psychotherapy. English, French, and Arabic. In person in Mississauga and online across Ontario.
